Just took the bottom cover of my SnoTek 24. The gears are NOT plastic, unless they have changed this in later years. My machine is a 2011.

Hi Larry, the internal gears are steel. I don’t know the exact differences in the engine but even if the same block is used the internals are spec’d differently. Warranty: The Ariens has 3 year, the SnowTek 2.

I have seen that the reviews of the Sno-Tek on Home Depot have gotten a lot better since last year. I also know that 10 years from now you will still be able to get parts for it through Ariens.

In other words, if your goal is to buy the least expensive American made snow blower atHome Depot this is the one. I feel better about you buying a Sno-Tek than the Chinese built Dirty Mans Tool and Powersmart.

Hi Paul I read the comments you made on Jan 1,2015 regarding the comparison of Snow-tek 24 vs Ariens compact 24. Has anything changed since then in the manufacture of the Sno-tek? Are the gears plastic? I am also considering purchasing one of these. The engines look identical side by side. Thanks
