Hi Dean, Without knowing the general area of where you live I really can’t tell you if either one is right for you. Both like 6 inches of snow or better, both don’t like 1-3 inch snow falls and the 24 inch especially tends to be “dirty” and throw stuff out the front/side with less than a few inches.

24-inch snow blowers are usually good for 2 car 60-80 foot driveways. A 26 inch can handle a larger driveway.

Paul,

I am looking at buying 1 of two used snow blowers
31AH54TC756 (3X 24 in. 277cc 3-Stage)
or 31AH55TA756 (3X (26″) 357cc Three-Stage 3526 SWE).

Which one would you opt for knowing when the motors were manufactured by the model # and obviously one has a larger engine than the other as well as differences in the lights on the blower (and obviously one is 26″ vs 24″ in width but both are 21″ height)

In reply to Mike Peterson. Hi Mike, I suggest the Ariens Deluxe 24. It's easy to use and has the power to handle snows like you got this weekend. It will also throw it a long way.

Have always shoveled snow. I live in Frederick MD and we just got over 30 inches of snow in a day and one half. I have about a 60 foot long drive way and the city always pushes snow in front of the entrance of the drive way. I also try to clear parking out front on the street for three cars. I’m now 60 years old and do not want to shovel any more than a couple of inches of snow. Looking at better than average quality, good power and a great job when finished. Looking at Club Cadet and Ariens but open to any suggestions. Hope to limit changing shear pins. Thank you for any input.

In reply to Jay. Hi Jay, The 524 SWE is made to work on gravel driveways. When you get it home adjust the front skid shoes so there is about 1/4 inch under the front scraper. The procedure is on page 10 of your manual. The easy way to do this is to take 2 thickness of cardboard and place it under the front of the snow blower (the scraper) then loosen the blue skid shoes and let them drop down to the floor. Tighten them back up. I always have some 1/4 in plywood scraps that I use to set the scraper instead of the cardboard. If it still picks up a lot of rocks you can adjust it another 1/8 inch higher.

Paul, I am looking at buying a Cub Cadet 524 SWE w/power steering. I have a crush stone/gravel driveway 3/8″ stone. Is this model with the skid shoes going to work o.k. on the driveway without digging it out. Is there a better model for a gravel driveway in the $600- $900 +/- price range. THANKS
