(2013 Model) Review Amerisun/PowerSmart DB7659 22 in 208 cc 2-stage Snow Blower Review

Is This The Best Snow Blower For You?

In one sentence: Probably not!

This snow blower is a specialty snow blower and is designed for SMALL driveways that get lots of snow. This snow blower will throw snow farther than you can with a shovel. It will make you feel good to have room to move around. This Powersmart snow blower would work great if you live in the city, have a small parking area and get plowed in by the city snow plow. If you are the doorman at a hotel this snow blower would handle the slush and packed snow. If your driveway is more than one car wide and two cars long I suggest going with a larger snow thrower. Unfortunately many of you will buy this machine because of the price and spend the next 10 years wishing you had spent $20 more for the Craftsman 88172

What you can use this snow blower for: For Paved and Gravel surfaces. Moderate to wet and heavy snowfall. This snow blower will easily handle 6 to 9 inch snow falls.

What you may not like: At this time if this snow blower breaks you have to get parts through Amerisun and do the repairs yourself. There is no warranty statement on the website so assume it has none. The 208cc LCT motor is a proven, dependable motor so as long as you use fuel stabilizer, it will give you no problems.  I have talked to Amerisun and they are very responsive so you should have no problems getting parts.

Amerisun/PowerSmart DB7659 22 in 208 cc 2-stage Snow Blower (2013 Model) Review

Amazon is the Official Retailer for this snowblower:  This snow blower will be sold primarily at Amazon and the current price includes free shipping:

New 2014, Updated Model!  Power Smart DB7659A 22-inch 208cc LCT Gas Powered Compact 2-Stage Snow Thrower with Electric Start

Be Careful! Online prices from other stores vary wildly. I have seen this snow blower on sale for as little as $382.99 but the fine print states “$234 for shipping” making it more expensive than buying it through Amazon.

Is This One Of The Best Rated Snow Blowers for 2012 – 2013? This PowerSmart is a specialty snow thrower and unfortunately too many people buy it on price alone and are not happy with it.  This snow blower was designed EXCLUSIVELY for small tight areas that get lots of heavy wet snow.  It is too small for you normal 2 car, 60 ft long driveway.

Does This Get a Best Snow Blower Rating For 2012-2013? In the Good, Better, Best rating system this snow blower rates a “Good” for ease of use and the fact it is a specialty unit. It uses a great LCT electric start motor, but the tire size and narrow width make it useful for only a few specialty applications. If you want a cheap machine and don’t mind ordering and installing repair parts yourself don’t be afraid to buy this snow blower but DON’T BUY IT JUST BECAUSE OF THE LOW PRICE!

Is This One Of The Best Snow Blowers for the Money 2012-2013? Time will tell. There is not enough history yet to tell you yes or no.

Service & Parts AvailabilityService and parts are easily available through Amerisun.com.  Just enter your model number and parts list pop up.

Ease Of Use: This is not the easiest snow blower to use because it not balanced well and has a simple “clicker” chute.  If you have a hard time using a snow blower, I suggest you look at a unit with power steering.

    • @John, Looking at the engine from the recoil starter side look to the bottom right. On the right side of the engine, along the bottom there should be a silver pipe sticking out. At the end of the pipe is a 4 sided plug. Remove that plug with a Cresent wrench. If the pipe is not ther the plug will be in the side of the engine in the same place.

  1. Just put in an order for this snow blower, our driveway is a two car length and one car width, sidewalk is about foot and half wide and about 20 feet in length. So besides the price it seems like a perfect fit.

was wondering since it’s been over a year if there is any new you find out about this machine one way or another in terms of performance and reliability

      • Well it came in yesterday. Lowes put it together for me. Gave it about a 2hr workout yesterday, in greater Boston.

So far first impressions have been positive.. Started on the first pull, with very little effort. Seems to handle about 12-16 inches fairly easily. The chute is a little annoying to have to stop and adjust it’s direction and would probably would like a little larger chute as well but it shot out pretty far for it’s size.

Lowe’s rep seem to like the looks of the engine and was surprised to find a 208 cc on a 22 inch.

I’m going to put it through it paces this weekend. Finishing up the back part of the driveway that has about 2 feet of snow and will let you know.

but so far no complaints. very easy to understand manual, well laid out visibility on the engine itself.

I think you hit the nail on the head though, if you have a wide driveway or a lot of surface area to cover a 22 inch size, though nice in price, probably isn’t your choice. But for us it’s seems like a perfect fit. Nice and compact but packs a really good punch.

    • I’ve had this unit since it first came out and live in SE MA and we’ve had record snowfall this year with the worse being a 26 ” fall. This unit has handled it all even though it is to small for my driveway. The only problem- it doesn’t throw the snow far enough so I start in the center of the drive and work out to the edges.
